Many moons ago I borrowed The Amulet of Samarkand from my friend Kate to read. It was an ok novel but Kate promised me that the sequel was much better and I was not disappointed! The Golem's Eye is faster paced and better narrated than its predecessor.
I was happy to find that the main character, Nathaniel, is far less whiny than in the previous novel, which allowed me to read it a lot quicker without getting frustrated with him. Once again Bartimaeus is up to his old shenanigans causing mayhem and overall hilarity. Another lovely part of this adventure takes Nathaniel and Bartimaeus to Prague, a once magical superpower now shadowed by the grandeur of London.
Another perspective is added to the series with Kitty, a member of the resistance that is a group of non-magical folk who believe that magicians should not have power over the government/populace of their country. Personally I find her perspective much more interesting and amusing than Nathaniel, which is also why I found The Golem's Eye a much quicker read. It is also neat to see the opposing view of the magical world and follow multiple story-lines.
