This is the first novel by Cecelia Ahern that I've ever read, I'm glad that I did. After my friend Lauren told me how much she loved the novel in comparison to the film version I just had to get my hands on it to read, thanks Lauren for lending me your copy :) I will say this is the only novel I have ever read that has reduced me to tears at the same time as giving me a good chuckle.
A picture of true human nature is painted through the character of Holly. The stages of grievance for her husband Gerry's death show how pain and sadness can be overcome with resilience and creativity, along with a lot of support from loved ones. Holly seems an addict, an addict of the letters that Gerry left behind unable to wait for her next fix, anxious. What would you do if a loved one left a list behind? I often wonder if I would follow the instructions as well as Holly did or interpret them into something that made me feel more comfortable, cause lets face it sometimes it is much easier to wimp out than face the music.
If you are not afraid to get emotional and are looking for something to read I would recommend you read it, but make sure to keep the tissues nearby just in case!
Cecelia Ahern
