Like most people when a book is being turned into a movie I must read the book before I see the movie, it just makes sense to me. And since this book has been referenced as being the next To Kill A Mockingbird and slated to be a blockbuster film this summer I figured I should check out what all the hubbub was about. I was not disappointed nor will you be.
I was thoroughly impressed by Kathryn Stockett's writing style and prose considering this was her first novel. I am a sucker for any book told in multiple voices, I find that it allows me to get to know the characters better and that generally leads me to loving the book even more. Skeeter, Minny, and Aibeleen are all beautiful characters whom I admire. Not to mention that I get tickled pink about the topic of civil rights (I took a whole course on social movements, which really was a course of the civil rights movement and it was awesome). I won't spill anymore of the beans and let you get to reading the book for yourself because you know you want to!
