A Girl CalledTennyson

I recently started reading teen fiction again, there were two factors that contributed 1) most of the customers at Chapters are parents buying for their teenagers and 2) they are substantially cheaper than most fiction. So I pooled my Christmas giftcards together and bought 6 novels for about $50 which is an amazing deal! This was one of those books which reacquainted me with teen fiction and how good and bad it can be.

Let me say one thing, when it isn't your first novel you probably would have pretty good editing skills right? Apparently Joan Givner should get a new editor since there were grammar/spelling errors at least once a page. I will say that the plot of the story was creative but the errors really made it hard for me not to start jumping up and down yelling MISTAKE like I was in elementary school or something. I also found that she was riding on the coattails of many other authors whose poetry and stories she inserted throughout the novel. As the title would suggest there was poetry by Tennyson inserted as well as a song from the musical The Music Man. I will give her credit for keeping me glued to the book with her plot and character development. I found that Tenn (that's the main character's nickname) grew to be a girl that I admired and had many traits that I found desirable.

Tenn has found herself snatched away from her own world into one that is lacking in children, making her quite desirable. Luckily saved by the peaceful people of that land who do not treat children like treasure stealing, hoarding, and obsessing over them. She grows accustom to her new surroundings and has found a new best friend in Una only to have her snatched away by child thieves. Her success in rescuing her friend depends on her belief in herself and her fearlessness.

It would seem she ended this novel intentionally leaving it open for a sequel but I'm unsure as to whether I would bother to read it since I finished this novel in less than a day. Maybe if she has a new editor I'll give it a go haha. Overall I'd say that the pros of the book out weighed the cons since this was the first edition of the novel and subsequent editions will probably be edited better so that I cannot solely judge it on poor grammar.
